We met over 20 years ago in the early stages of our teaching careers in East London. We worked together in a large mainstream primary school and in an alternative provision for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. While our careers took different paths, those early years were pivotal in shaping our shared values and our commitment to driving change and innovation in education.
We spent many years working with children and young people for whom a safe, nurturing learning environment wasn’t optional — it was essential. This principle remains at the heart of everything we do.
As we began working with schools to deliver training and support, we realised that it isn’t just young people who sometimes feel lost within the education system. The same skills of listening, supporting, containing, and challenging — creating safe and courageous spaces — are equally important for the adults working within these schools.
In recent years, our work has included partnerships with Nurtureuk and the VRU, MHFA England, Flourish, Year Here, Team Teach, Teach First, Local Authority specialist services, including Virtual Schools, Multi Academy Trusts, charities, and the voluntary and community sector. Across these diverse experiences, we’ve gained a wealth of insight into what makes schools healthy, safe, and successful — including the challenges they face — and why psychological safety is so critical.
Now, as experienced leaders, managers, trainers, trustees, and parents, we have come together as co-founders of The Ossigeno, bringing our combined experiences to support schools, staff, and young people to thrive.
